Course Description

This 3-hour training provides addiction
counselors with evidence-based
knowledge and practical counseling
skills for addressing client use of THC,
vaping products (tobacco and THC), Delta-
8 THC, and other high-risk hemp
consumables.

The course examines pharmacological
effects, health risks, and common
misconceptions that contribute to the
perceived safety of these substances.

Participants learn to apply motivational
interviewing micro-skills and counseling
strategies through case examples to
support informed decision-making and
healthier client behaviors.

Learning Objectives

1. Identify the pharmacological effects and
risks of THC, Delta 8 THC, vaping products,
and hemp consumables.

2. Recognize common misconceptions
that minimize perceived risks of these
substances.

3. Apply motivational interviewing micro-
skills to guide clients toward healthier
choices.

Meet the instructor

Renee Eady

I serve as the Vice President of Training and Projects at ADE Incorporated, where our team develops assessment tools, electronic health records, and CRM solutions designed to support effective and ethical practice. I am also the Director of Training for Learnable, ADE’s continuing education and professional training division, and I’m pleased to be the presenter for this course.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Georgia with more than 30 years of experience in the addiction and behavioral health field. I have been a certified addiction counselor since 2008 and an LPC since 2010, and I hold multiple professional credentials, including CACII, CCS and CMAC through GACA, as well as certifications from NBCC and NAADAC.

Motivational Interviewing has been a core focus of my work since 2008. I became a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers (MINT) in 2010 and continue to be deeply committed to training professionals in evidence-based, person-centered approaches that support meaningful change.
